Service Description
Spend the day learning to build with clay! In this workshop, you will: - learn the fundamentals of handbuilding a ceramic serving platter using the slab construction method, - create your own design/pattern/illustration on your platter using the surface decoration technique of carving, and - glaze your piece. You'll have the option at the beginning of this class to create one of three types of serving platters: Option 1- oval shape (approximate dimensions 12.25" x 6.75") Option 2- rounded square shape (approximate dimensions 10.25") Option 3- cheese board (approximate dimensions 12" x 8") Once your works have been fired in the kiln, you will have a fully functional work of art to enjoy forever! Beginners welcome! No pottery experience needed! *** It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to come to class with printed or pre-drawn designs. Dimensions of your illustrations are up to you, but small and detailed images (i.e. lots of tiny lines like henna/mandala designs) are not recommended. For reference, each Option has approximate dimensions listed to help you determine the size(s) of your designs. Consider designs and illustrations that mimic coloring book pages.
